TOWER REPAIRS

Our church was completed in 1678. It’s Grade l l* and one of the three medieval Christian foundations still existing in Nottingham today.

In 2023 it was found that repairs needed to be made to the tower and this was made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we are able to repair the tower masonry, make the roof water-tight and hold heritage events so people can learn more about our special building! Work started in April 2024, and is due to be completed in July 2024.

As part of the repairs project we ran some Heritage events with the first being a Heritage Workshop where participants learnt about significant people connected to St Nic’s then created different pieces of artwork for an exhibition on People of St Nic’s now displayed in church.

Heritage events

The second event was a family open day! Families enjoyed making a craft to learn more about St Nicholas, a storyteller in period costume telling the story of royalists who fired a cannon from St Nic's tower and a scavenger hunt with prizes!

We also ran a Heritage conversation class for people who attend our free English lessons, many of whom are asylum seekers and refugees. Participants learnt about the history of St Nic’s and were able to practise their English!
